Our main goal : to meet the expectations of the French curriculum
4 guidelines for our development :
1) Command of languages
?oe We aim at maintaining proficiency in the French language, as it remains our language of communication and literary culture. Special help will be provided to the children whose mother tongue is not French.
?oe A French as a Second Language (FSL) teaching position
?oe The possibility to choose optional theater for the Baccalauréat
?oe Bilingualism in English from the second year of preschool, starting this year (Sept 2008) and continuing in the 3rd year of preschool from 2009.
?oe English is also used to teach other subjects, such as sports, history, geography and science - DNL (non-linguistic subjects) are taught in English in elementary school as well as in Secondary school. For that purpose, two full-time positions were created in 2008, so that our students can study towards the "Baccalauréat Mention Européenne".
?oe Certifications : DELE, TOEFL, Cambridge.
We are planning to :
?oe open an English library, suited for each age at the LIF.
?oe open a multimedia space devoted to languages
?oe maintain other languages, such as German and Spanish and to develop classes in Mandarin Chinese, with the objective of the final exam.
Bilingualism and optional theater classes have satisfactorily enriched our educational offer. We now need to decide the extent to which bilingualism is to be continued and for how long the LIF wishes to continue proposing optional subjects.
2) Scientific and technical education
We aim at developing scientific spirit in our students, so that more of them will get access to the scientific Baccalauréat. In that respect, they must be able to major in science or mathematics when in Terminale S and they must have access to the relevant equipment, as recommended by educational authorities.
?oe Creation of a technology room, financed by Total Indonesia
?oe A new maths and computer classroom in 2008
?oe And for 2008/09 :
- A complete makeover of our IT system
- Installation of IT cabling infrastructure
- Updating of IT programmes
- Software (OS and MS Office) will be acquired for about a hundred computers
- In primary school, IT equipment with the refurbishing of an IT classroom (financed by Total), with one computer and one projector per classroom.
We are also planning :
?oe The creation of four new science labs and one preparation room
Luckily, our school caters for both primary and secondary pupils. Equipments that are destined for secondary school can also be used by primary school children. Interest in science may thus be kindled at an early age.
3) Sports and Culture
Our pupils should find at the LIF facilities which make easier to practice sports, to have access to culture and to exchange with other schools in Jakarta. But our buildings are showing signs of age and we lack space. Specialising space and modernizing the equipments have become a priority.
?oe The children's library and our documentation center need more space if we want to implement our project for the development of English.
?oe We need a well-appointed music room and an art room
?oe A conference room that would be suitable for theater and movie shows.
?oe Some space devoted to sports, such as a dojo or some outdoor sports fields
Our pupils also need to exchange with others schools and share projects with them, which requires a substantial budget for transportation and external collaborators.
For school year 08/09, we are planning a circus activity for primary school and for secondary school, some poetry workshops will take place with the Ecole Française de Bali, as well as track meets with other Asian countries.
4) Civic-mindedness and openness to the host country
Young people's expectations and behaviours change, living with others is something one learns at school and with one's family. To be fruitful and fulfilling, upbringing should take place in a pleasant environment.
We currently feel a bit cramped and need more space :
?oe Quiet playrooms for primary school
?oe High school students need their own space
?oe A proper study hall, headmaster's and supervisors' office, a visitor's room
?oe Staff room with desks
?oe A reception desk, with offices with some space devoted to the new administrative tasks.
?oe A dining hall which promotes sharing and respects hygiene and security standards.
?oe Parking spaces, one for the staff, one for the parents and a drop off place to relieve traffic congestion on Cipete Dalam.
We have many actions to propose in order to diversify our educational approach :
?oe field trips
?oe external collaborators
?oe field trips around Jakarta and Indonesia
?oe training programmes in companies, theater workshops.
?oe Artistic projects (music, art, theater)
?oe School galas
?oe CCLIF activities
Our school also needs to open up on other foreign French speaking communities. The awards of excellence which were implemented by Total have been indeed seminal. They allow families in need who cannot face up to educational expenses to have access to an education at LIF.
To conclude :
We are at a pivotal moment for the development of the LIF. We have to get through that step in order to become a dynamic, modern and attractive school for the French people who might think of choosing another educational system, as well as for foreign and Indonesian communities.
